Lúnasa

Lúnasa is another band I discovered on iTunes while I was researching Irish music. I enjoy listening to a lot of Irish music because it often involves the flute, and I find flute music very soothing.


The band's name comes from the festival Lughnasadh (an ancient Irish harvest festival). The band was formed by Seán Smyth, Trevor Hutchinson, and Donogh Hennessy, while they were playing in Scandinavia. When they returned to Ireland they recorded some tracks with Michael McGoldrick and Kevin Crawford for the first album, Lúnasa. Kevin Crawford joined them in 1997 and Cillian Valleley joined them in 1999. In their music they combine the flute, the fiddle, the uilleann pipes, the guitar and the bass.
